In order to be certain that you are getting the best education possible, you must be certain that the institution has some sort of official recognition. Accreditation is the process through which a college's educational programs are evaluated to ensure that certain standards are upheld. This process is usually done by a form of peer review, and the standards tend to vary from awarding body to awarding body. Being aware of the university's accreditation is usually a good indicator of what sort of value that you are getting for your tuition.
